history
SB19's history begins in 2016 when they were formed by ShowBT Philippines, the local subsidiary of South Korean entertainment company ShowBT Group. The group's members—Josh, Pablo (formerly Sejun), Stell, Ken, and Justin—were selected through auditions aimed at discovering talents for the K-pop style training system. Initially intended for company events, they were later launched as a boy group under the decision of former CEO Geong Seong Han.
In October 26 2018, SB19 officially debuted with the ballad single "Tilaluha". Despite modest initial success, their breakthrough came in 2019 with the release of "Go Up". This single gained significant attention after a fan-uploaded dance practice video went viral on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. This unexpected surge in popularity propelled them into mainstream awareness, leading to appearances on various radio and television programs both locally and internationally.
Throughout the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, SB19 embarked on their first nationwide concert tour titled ‘SB19: Get in the Zone’, expanding their fanbase and solidifying their presence in the Philippine music scene. Their achievements that year included becoming the first Filipino act to appear on the Billboard Next Big Sound chart and entering the Billboard Social 50, peaking at No. 2 in August 2020, highlighting their growing international appeal.
In 2020, SB19 continued to build on their success with their debut album "Get In The Zone", which featured popular tracks like "Go Up" and "Alab (Burning)". They also achieved notable positions on Billboard charts, further establishing their position as a rising force in the global music industry.
The years 2021 and 2022 saw SB19's expansion into new territories with releases like their extended play "Pagsibol" and singles such as "What?" and "Bazinga", the latter of which made history by debuting on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart. They also made significant cultural impacts as ambassadors for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and through international performances.
In 2023, SB19 formally announced the establishment of their independent label, 1Z Entertainment, marking a new chapter in their career. They released the EP "Pagtatag!" and announced a global tour, showcasing their continued evolution and commitment to their artistic vision. "GENTO", the lead track from the EP debuted strongly on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, entering at No. 8. This achievement marked SB19's first top 10 placement on this prestigious chart, showcasing their increasing global appeal and solidifying their presence in the international music scene. The GENTO era of SB19 underscores their international appeal, marked by their selection to perform at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. They also headlined several music festivals, including the Aurora Music Festival 2024 in Pampanga and a few other international events: the Round: ASEAN–Korea Music Festival 2023 and Playlist Live Festival 2023 in Indonesia, and Pistang Pinoy sa Korea 2024 in South Korea.
Overall, SB19's history is characterized by their journey from being local talents to becoming trailblazers in the Philippine music industry.
The logo's more than just a combination of their name's letters, after all, and the meaning is super touching for fans."The emblem’s shape shows the fusion of a diamond and windmill. The diamond shape signifies our bond with our fans. [A] diamond shines even in the tiniest of light –– our fans are our light. From the dictionary, a windmill operates when there is wind. For us, the wind is our fans. SB19 as the windmill, we cannot exist without the wind's (our fans) support." -SB19
